Steam Turbine Diaphragm Dishing Repair

Diaphragm “dishing” due to creep is prevalent in many types of steam turbines.  A viable repair must both correct the dishing prevalent in the diaphragm, while helping prevent future occurrences.

We have developed a procedure that straightens diaphragms even after they are beyond the specifications that typically lead to a replacement recommendation.  The proper combination of stress-relieving and pressure at specific points along the diaphragm has allowed us to repair diaphragms that exhibit extreme dishing.   In certain diaphragm designs, such as with the D-11 Steam Turbine, the diaphragms may even be reinforced with bridges to mitigate future dishing.   We have performed this repair on diaphragms that have been in service for over a decade now, showing tremendous improvement compared to previous major inspections.

If you have a steam turbine that is prone to diaphragm dishing please contact us today to discuss how we may be able to help you prolong the life of your steam turbine diaphragms and prevent costly replacement.

Looking to order Steam Turbine Valve Components?

Contact us today to learn how we can provide you with high quality/low cost valve components for your Steam Turbine.   We manufacture a variety of valve components for various Steam Turbine OEM types for the fossil and nuclear industries.

Whether it be to replenish your stock or for an upcoming turbine outage need, we have a solution for you.  We can also reverse engineer and manufacture components through the simple process outlined below.

  • Sample Received– Whether it’s a stock item or an item made to order for a special application, the process begins with a new or used sample.
  • Reverse Engineering – After receiving your sample, we confirm all required properties using our state of the art equipment; properties such as dimensions, hardness, and material composition.
  • Design – From the reverse engineering data, a detailed CAD manufacturing drawing is created in accordance with international design standards.
  • Price Estimate – A price estimate is provided to the customer for the finished part. Typically, savings are in the range of 15-30% under standard retail pricing. More savings can be realized as production quantities increase.
  • Manufacture – Upon agreement on the design and price, we manufactures the part, keeping you updated on status along the way. After passing a stringent quality inspection, parts will ship immediately.

We look forward to developing a custom plan to help you improve quality and reduce the cost of your critical steam turbine valve components.

Steam Turbine Valve Component Inspections

We perform various steam turbine valve component inspections for steam turbines all across the country.  We recently completed a shop inspection of D-11 steam turbine valve components at our world-class facility in Gainesville, Georgia.  The original scope of work for these valves was to disassemble, clean, dimensionally inspect, perform NDE, and provide inspection results and recommendations to the client for disposition. “As Found” dimensional data along with the final NDE inspections were provided to the customer to aide in their decision-making process.

After component inspections are complete we communicate with the customer to determine the best course of action for their components, execute the repair/replacement (if necessary), and return the valve assemblies to the site.

In this instance we inspected the following D-11 steam turbine valves:

  • Reheat Stop Valve
    • RHSV-Left
    • RHSV-Right
  • Intercept Valve
    • IV-Left
    • IV-Right

If you have any upcoming steam turbine valve component inspections please CONTACT US today and we can send you a sample inspection report, as well as a quotation for completing the inspections.

Steam Turbine Inspection & Repair

Power Services Group (PSG) has the ability to provide full turnkey inspections on steam turbine generators for most OEM manufacturers. PSG provides total turnkey outage performance including technical direction, engineering, project management & coordination, supervision, labor, tooling, repairs, parts sourcing and/or manufacturing, and start-up support. We support fossil and nuclear steam turbines ranging from 1MW to 1,300MW for all major OEMs. We service all industry types including, but not limited to: industrial, paper/pulp, marine, steel/aluminum, chemical and petrochemical, utility, nuclear, and independent power producers.

Boring – Small to Large Diameter

We perform on-site line boring services and coupling line boring for virtually any boring requirement.

This includes: cylinders, pumps, pump casings, turbine casings, pressure vessels, cylinder casings, compressors, compressor casings, gear boxes, and construction equipment, just to name a few examples.

Why should we be your first choice for on-site boring?

Reduced Cost and Downtime

Performed on-site, we have eliminated the issues related to removing and shipping your equipment to a shop: costly mobilizations, exorbitant shipping costs, potential damage during shipment, valuable lay down space, and plant crane and rigging requirements.

Convenience

All work is performed at the customer’s facility, regardless of size, position, damage, material, etc. Once on-site, unloading and loading of our boring equipment is quick and is typically accomplished with a small fork lift or crane.

Flexibility

Our boring equipment can accommodate diameters from 1.5 inch to 12 feet, at depths up to 26 feet, and in almost any location and environment.r

Shaft Welding & Machining

We were recently contracted by a major utility in the Midwest U.S. to repair a damaged shaft at one of their power generating facilities.  The remediation process included machining the existing shaft to remove the damaged area and hard spots, weld build up of the shaft, and final machining to achieve desired diameters and tolerances.  This repair was performed by our trained technicians, utilizing specialty equipment designed for this application.  The end result was a repaired shaft, and a happy customer.

If you have any shafts in need of repair at your facility please contact us to discuss.  To learn more about our shaft repair services please CLICK HERE for the latest brochure.
