Steam Turbine Diaphragm Dishing Repair

Diaphragm “dishing” due to creep is prevalent in many types of steam turbines.  A viable repair must both correct the dishing prevalent in the diaphragm, while helping prevent future occurrences.

We have developed a procedure that straightens diaphragms even after they are beyond the specifications that typically lead to a replacement recommendation.  The proper combination of stress-relieving and pressure at specific points along the diaphragm has allowed us to repair diaphragms that exhibit extreme dishing.   In certain diaphragm designs, such as with the D-11 Steam Turbine, the diaphragms may even be reinforced with bridges to mitigate future dishing.   We have performed this repair on diaphragms that have been in service for over a decade now, showing tremendous improvement compared to previous major inspections.

If you have a steam turbine that is prone to diaphragm dishing please contact us today to discuss how we may be able to help you prolong the life of your steam turbine diaphragms and prevent costly replacement.
